How the quiz works

There are no right or wrong answers. Each of the five questions — how you wash, how you feel about spending, what you do about a bird dropping, what protection the car has, and how you would spend a free Sunday morning — matches one of five approaches to car care. The approach you pick most often becomes your result, with three guides that fit it. Answer with what you actually do, not what you think you should do; the result is only useful if it matches real life.

The five approaches

A considered, detailed routine. You enjoy the work. The risk is overdoing it — polishing more often than the paint needs. Put the effort into safe washing, correction checked with a paint gauge, and protection maintained on a schedule.
Make the weekend wash count. You wash when you can and want it to count. A proper two-bucket wash and a durable sealant will do more for the paint than extra products.
A simple routine you can keep. You want a clean car without spending your weekends on it. Long-lasting protection and a simple routine save time; the one thing to avoid is the automatic brush wash.
Put technique before spending. You want results without overspending. Technique is free: the right wash method and a few good basics matter more than an expensive bottle.
Start with a strong foundation. You are just starting out. Learn the safe wash method and the right wash order first, then build a routine around your season and parking.

The basics that apply to everyone

Never dry-wipe a dusty car — rinse it first, and wash with a clean microfibre mitt, not a sponge or a household cloth.
Wash in shade, or early or late in the day, and dry the car straight away so hard water doesn't leave spots.
Remove bird droppings the same day: soften them first and lift them off rather than scrubbing.
Keep some protection on the paint — wax, sealant or a ceramic coating — and top it up before summer and before the monsoon.
